About the project

The Centro de Arte Moderna (CAM), nestled within the lush grounds of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, showcases an innovative architectural approach that harmonizes art and nature, as conceptualized by Kengo Kuma. In collaboration with OODA and VDLA, the project features a striking ceramic tile canopy that enhances its visual appeal and functionality, reflecting a human-centered design philosophy.

A key highlight of this redesign is the integration of indoor and outdoor spaces, inspired by the Japanese concept of Engawa, which fosters a seamless connection between the interior and the surrounding landscape. Custom pivot and sliding glass systems developed by OTIIMA play a crucial role in this transformation, offering unobstructed views of the gardens and promoting an interactive experience between art and nature.
