Aires Mateus, one of Portugal's most influential architectural studios, is known for its minimalistic character and complex storytelling in space. The essence of their projects is simplicity, light, and the relationship with the landscape, which make these spaces create a profoundly human and peaceful atmosphere. Having collaborated with Aires Mateus on some of their most emblematic projects, OTIIMA is proud to have provided its windows, which not only frame but complete the architectural vision. In this post, we dive into these three stunning projects showcasing OTIIMA's architectural glazing capabilities.
House in Melides
On Portugal’s southern coast, House in Melides is an ode to the harmony of architecture with the land. This home nests within its low-impact footprint against the rolling hills and sweeping sea views. It uses a minimalist palette to create a greater cohesiveness between the indoors and outdoors.
These frameless windows already play an important role in this project. The oversized bi-fold panes offer sweeping views of the coastal landscape and sunshine, turning the living spaces into bright havens. Aires Mateus. The ultra-slim profiles and seamless glass connections allow the architecture to bleed into the landscape, dissolving boundaries to enhance the serenity of the experience it creates.

Casa Tapada das Relvas is a contemporary reinterpretation of Portugal's traditional rural houses. This residence is surrounded by lush farmland and blends modern forms with an aura of rural tradition. Designed by Aires Mateus, the space is a study in reverence for Portuguese architecture, offering graphic lines and monolithic forms that anchor the building in the rural landscape.
OTIIMA's minimal windows were essential in achieving the open, light-filled interiors that characterize this project. Our sliding window systems allow natural light to enter and blend in with the rural landscape. Aires Mateus' design elements help to create a sense of timelessness while respecting the surrounding landscape.

Faculty of Architecture in Tournai
In Tournai, Belgium, Aires Mateus is redefining academic architecture with the Faculty of Architecture, a project that goes beyond traditional educational buildings. The structure is a learning space and an architectural statement designed to inspire creativity and openness. Aires Mateus focused on geometric purity and material simplicity to create spaces that encouraged contemplation and interaction.
For this project, OTIIMA provided custom-made glazing solutions tailored to the building’s modern aesthetic and functional needs. Our systems' transparency and adaptability support the creation of shared spaces that feel open and intimate. This collaboration between OTIIMA and Aires Mateus shows our commitment to designing functional and integral solutions to the architectural experience.
