A tour into the fascinating Jordao Theatre in Portugal

Jordao Theater Project honoured with Portuguese Urban Rehabilitation Award 2022.
There was significant attention associated with the reconstruction of this building, due to the functionality and values associated with it and the memories that this building materializes. The function of the building was lost with time and the construction was degraded, therefore an intervention to transform the building while preserving its heritage was necessary.
Pitagoras Group in this architectural project achieved to preserve the exterior of the building and its interior, without jeopardizing its function as a school of music, performing arts and visual arts, always bearing in mind the framework of this project, the past. The new floor over the Jordão building consists of a metallic structure, covered by an OTIIMA glass curtain facade and metallic elements. This curtain wall system is made up of the latest fibreglass profile technology, featuring a full exterior view of glass, low thermal conductivity and a reversible system that allows the window an opening angle of 165º.
The project includes a 400-seat auditorium, the new Music School of the Valentim Moreira de Sá Academy (Guimarães Conservatory) and spaces dedicated to the Performing and Visual Arts course at the University of Minho, giving new life to the 80-year-old building. In addition to the architectural and aesthetic intervention, Pitagoras Group felt responsible for ensuring the sustainability of the equipment, while the restoration becomes fundamental in the process of applying for the Couros area to World Heritage status, as an extension of the historic centre, already submitted to UNESCO. The new building design involves an interpretative, personal, yet artistic charge, safeguarding heritage, while its expansive glass walls look towards the future with respect and inspiration.

The land breathes through the structure, light carving its way across surfaces, shifting with time. OTIIMA’s ultra-slim profiles amplify this sense of weightlessness, ensuring that nothing interrupts the dialogue between inside and out. The villa is not simply inhabited; it’s a quiet retreat where transparency is the ultimate luxury.
