Our mission is to be the global reference for minimalist frame systems, connecting architects, building constructors and engineers. OTIIMA’s products are sophisticated, unexpected, and rebellious and are always on the edge of being inconceivable and more than an architectural intervention. João Simões, CEO

Chief Executive Officer

A civil engineer by training, he began his professional career as an intern at Mota-Engil in 2007, later taking on leadership positions. In 2011, he led Mota-Engil's operations in its first foray into Brazil.


With a successful track record in managing large-scale projects in various sectors and different countries, one of the highlights of his career is the management of one of the lots of the Nacala Corridor railway project in Malawi for Mota-Engil, with a contract value of over €200 million executed in just over two years.

He started his professional career in the building facades area in 2015 when he joined Martifer. He spent the last nine years managing operations in some of the world's most influential and demanding cities, such as Lisbon, Madrid, Paris and London.


Working closely with some of the leading international stakeholders in the area, he contributed to the successful completion of several prestigious European projects.

He led Martifer's facade business area until March 2019, when he started working in the UK as Operations Director for Lindner Prater.


For the past 18 months, he has been Managing Director of the UK for the Clarison Group, responsible for managing the companies English Architectural Glazing and Alucraft Systems.

Over the past nine years, he has delivered over €450 million in facade projects of various types and sizes up to €40 million.

An economist by training, he has held positions at state and government entities over a twenty-five-year career and as a manager in several companies.


Since 2008, he has held positions at the Casais Group, the second largest company in the construction sector, assuming the position of Executive Director and chief Commercial Officer (CCO) of the Group, as well as in multiple international companies of the group: Executive Board Member of Casais EAU, PCA Casais Brasil, PCA Operplano Facility Management – Brasil, Executive Board Member of VB GULF- Qatar, PCA of Casais Magreb – Morroco, Executive Board Member of Casais Mozambique, Executive Board Member of Casais Cape Verde and Executive Board Member of Casais Algeria.

With a Degree and MBA in Business Management, he is the Current CEO of Vanguard Properties, the largest national real estate developer in the premium and luxury segments (residential), as well as an investor in several companies in the areas of services, tourism, investment fund management and industry, representing a total global investment of over 1.25 billion euros.
