Cas’Amaro, perched above Aldeia Galega da Merceana, is an example of heritage and modernity coexisting in harmony. Atelier Central Arquitectos transformed this once-ruined winery into a luxurious living space with a focus on wine tourism.
The old winery retains its original charm and now serves as a grand social space with reception, living and dining areas. Behind the iconic concrete wine vats are a hidden kitchen and bathroom. Large facade openings, protected by pine shutters, allow light to flood in while offering stunning vineyard views. An exterior insulation system preserves the building's historic appearance while providing thermal comfort.
New Living Quarters
The new living quarters are subtly integrated into the landscape, half-buried to minimize the impact on the original structure. Designed as a gray stone block, these spaces include deep window recesses for intimate vineyard views, recessed balconies for privacy, and a rooftop infinity pool that reflects the panoramic landscape.

The Role of OTIIMA's Windows
Central to the success of the project are Otiima's minimalist window systems, specifically the 38 Plus and 38 Pivot. These systems are instrumental in creating a seamless connection between the interior and exterior spaces, framing the picturesque views of the vineyard while maintaining thermal efficiency and aesthetic coherence. The large, unobstructed glass panels enhance the sense of openness and bring the beauty of the surrounding landscape into the living spaces.

Enhancing the Landscape
The dynamic landscape of the vineyard is the focal point of the project. The access road remains unchanged but is reinforced for all-weather vehicle traffic. A discreetly positioned parking area is hidden by vegetation and blends seamlessly into the natural environment. A shaded barbecue area, framed by a steel structure to support vine growth, is perfect for social gatherings and wine tastings.
Cas'Amaro, enhanced by OTIIMA's minimalist window systems, is a testament to architectural preservation and innovation, creating a seamless dialog between past and present, nature and architecture.
