About the project

Renowned artist Mariko Mori, known for exploring life, death, and technology through photography, film, and performance, has expanded her artistic vision into architecture by creating a residence on Miyako Island, Japan. This spherical retreat, designed in collaboration with Ring Architects from Tokyo, embodies years of meticulous observation of light, landscape, and natural rhythms.

Situated amidst pristine white sandy beaches and coral reefs, the residence functions as a sanctuary and a studio, merging with its environment. Its fluid architectural form and precise orientation resonate with Mori’s artistic philosophy and establish a harmonious coexistence between architecture and nature.
