The Jordão Theater Project was distinguished with the Portuguese Urban Rehabilitation Award 2022 for preserving and revitalizing an iconic Guimarães, North Portugal building. Initially constructed in the 1930s as a cultural hub for cinema and theater productions, the theater faced decline over the years, necessitating a transformation that honored its historical significance while adapting it for modern use. The Pitagoras Group’s intervention preserved the building’s historic exterior and interior, ensuring it continues to serve as a vibrant space for music, performing, and visual arts.
The architects introduced a new floor featuring a metallic structure with an OTIIMA glass curtain facade and fiberglass profiles, providing energy efficiency and an unobstructed exterior view. The renovation included a 400-seat auditorium and facilities for the Valentim Moreira de Sá Academy and the University of Minho, breathing new life into the theater while emphasizing its cultural importance.
