Located in the immense spontaneous pine forest in Praia Verde, South of Portugal, Casa da Praia is perfectly harmonized with the winds by the sea and the sculptural pine trees that extend along the valley.
The architectural intervention in this mystique and the beautiful valley had as a main challenge to assure the presence and sensation of texture, lights, and shadows inside the space.

Atelier Central Architects achieved respect for the location, surroundings, and history, developing two exposed concrete planes with a pure design that determines the floor slab, resting lightly on the ground, and the sun protection canopy, an extension of the roof and supported by the plane modelled by the canopy of pines.
A house that respects nature and biodiversity, not only in its integration with the existing landscape but also in the concern for reducing the ecological footprint associated with its use. Large spans, facing south, capture all the thermal gains during the winter, but a concrete canopy protects its interior during the summer.
Ventilated facades with high-performance projected insulation. Landscaped roof with insulation made of extruded polystyrene, expanded clay, river sand and night humidity capture system.
